-1- Getting Ready for the Party
Patrick closed the front door behind him. Running a tired hand through his short, blond, slightly spiky hair he dropped his briefcase just inside. He trudged and flopped onto the couch near the coffee table. "Oh man, what a day at work." With a deep, energizing breath, he leaned forward and attacked the mountain of mail in front of him. "Who knew it would be so busy on Halloween?" Bills piled to one side, and junk flung toward the trash in the next room. "Now to rest for a minute before the party tonight."
Ring!Ring! "And just as I was about to close my eyes, too." Ring!Ring! With a mighty effort, he dragged himself out of the comfort of the couch. The trash was collected and deposited in its receptacle. Picking up the phone he yawned. The number belonged to his girl friend.
Her cheerful voice bubbled over the line, "Patrick! How are you? Are you tired? I thought I heard you yawn."

The blond haired scientist rushes into the store like laboratory calling ahead of him, "Tracey! Tracey!" Leaving the back area and turning left toward the left, he aims for the dairy section and the testing area. Lab coat flowing behind like a cape, the badge sized device in the scientist's hand gets closer to the former produce section.
Upon arriving, the graying inventor slides to a stop in front of the two men, one of which he recognizes. "Sir! Errrrrr, Uncle Ben and whoever you are," greeting his boss and the brown haired man with him, "Have you seen Tracey?" In his excitement, Doc salutes with the badge hand and realizes his mistake. He trades the device to his other hand and offers it to shake.
The gray haired boss, in his own world, misses the outstretched appendage. The stranger clasps hands in greeting. Uncle Ben answers him, "Yeah, I had a hankering for taquitos and Eddo here wanted some, too, so I sent her to go get some. What do you want her for?"
A light and momentary breeze tried to penetrate the large dog's fur. With the dew point reached, the night air filled with low clouds blanketing the street in front of the house where she lived. Here, in the middle of the night, there came a sound. The captive canine looked at the large, jail-like, metal gate holding her back and then beyond. The flickering street light couldn't decide if it wanted to be on or off. This made seeing what was coming even harder.
The motor slowed to an idle as the rectangular shape stopped moving when the dog could see it. With a soft click, the door of the fog disguised vehicle opened for a moment and then closed. Warm exhaust cleared the air a bit near the tailpipe. An electric whine alerted her that the window was down. The sporadic flashes from above did nothing to help identify who this was and what they wanted. After idling for a few minutes, the engine purred like a contented cat as it pulled away.
Straining her eyes the dog coul

Water dove off the cliff like lemmings to their doom. The effect was a curtain like and with the wind coming off the desert, they began to unfurl. Due to the increased humidity, the man loosened his tie and ran a finger around his collar allowing him some relief. Row upon row of large stones like shark teeth stood between him and the crashing liquid. The flowing water rushed and leapt toward him like gazelles escaping a predator.
Why is this waterfall here in the desert? Where is the water coming from? How is it climbing so high? Has someone found this unique oasis before me?
He pushed these thoughts aside and checked the page in the book he held. This is the place.
In preparation for his ascent, he tucked the journal under his belt and behind him. Like a monkey he clamored on all fours up the jagged array of rubble. Despite the use of all limbs, the climb took quite some time.
Upon reaching the summit and the base of the crashing stream, he took a momen

I received an article offer from one of my regular patrons between tea and staring an old-time blinking cursor on a screen.
The offer came attached with a brief message detailing the potential for compensation and what would be expected of me. If it was a generation ago, I’d imagine a big, fluorescent-toned office with thin walls and glass rooms. A bearded editor strides in and pitches me the story he wants me to write for the newspaper.
Of course, even then, such situations never happened except in movies rooted a further generation in the past. My editor, who I could only imagine was some baby-face ten years my junior who could multitask data at a level I couldn’t even manage on the king of all caffeine rushes, spewed out words like a live dump from his active memory.

Chapter 15: First Steps.
The events of a few hours ago still had not settled with Vixen. Her life as a Spectre was now in the public view, she knew the Alliance would now try and use her to their own advantage. Everything was falling into the place where she didn't want them to fall, but she knew that now she had no power to stop anything. As she stood looking out across the skyline of the Citadel, Vixen thought of what might now happen. If the Alliance were nice they might give her supplies to help with the mission given to her but it was more likely they'd give her a pat on the back and tell her 'good luck'. Either way, she was alone.
Huffing, she turned away from her window and walked over to her suitcase that she gave up on trying to pack after she found out the limit of shotguns she could carry was only two.
“I suppose I could buy more and have them shipped to me while I'm...away” Vixen spoke

The youtube video started rolling with the view of a nondescript plastic crate.
"Hey, folks!" a cheerful voice said from the off. "Here's Steve again and it has been nearly eight hours since Amanda and Johnny have turned into earthworms. They've spent most of the time boring through the earth in this crate where I stored them, just like normal earthworms do, and I have barely seen them. Well, that is until an hour ago when they suddenly showed unexpected 'activity'."
Steve snickered and grabbed the crate's lid. "So let's take a look what Johnny and Amanda are up to!" With verve, he removed it and exposed the two earthworms Johnny and Amanda had been transformed into. But instead of digging themselves through the wet soil, both their wriggling shapes were at the

The water splashed beneath his paws as the small raccoon ran down the alley. Puddles were everywhere, rain was drenching down as the little animal was climbing into a dumpster. But the dumpster was closed, no way could the little thing lift the top.
The raccoon shivered in the March morning weather, since he couldn’t climb over the dumpster, nor crawl under it, he curled up into a ball and as tired as he was, fell asleep miserably through the downpour.
‘Aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!’ a voice screamed out. The raccoon awoke in the middle of the alley with a splitting headache.
It lasted only a few minutes. He was stretched on the ground, he stood up looking at himself, he was now taller than the dumpster, he seemed human height but was still a raccoon. ‘What the hell?’
He covered his mouth with fear. ‘I spoke! Like a human! All these thoughts… how do I know these words…?’
He sat in the darkened alley as rain poured d
.:: To Breathe In The Unknown ::.What a more fragile yet so incredibly strong when enchanted with hope and desire than the creatures that call themselves humans. I will not deny that when I saw their faces, I saw me. I saw my people. Yet, when I glimpsed at their plain and hackneyed body structure, I was consumed with disappointment. Humans are such ordinary beings. I am impressed, however, of their survival skills. They are not ignorant children, running and jumping around with glee, nor do they have a good anatomy to within stand their surroundings. No, they are needy creatures. Shelter, fire, more water, more food, need more sleep, they all cry and shout. The lion can last a few days without a meal. An ant is perfectly fine in its pile of dirt crowded and shoved against its brothers and sisters. The horse can run miles upon miles without complaining. Such selfish, vermin creatures humans were. Then again I would be a liar if I said I had little interest in them. It was how alluring and charming they were. They obse
Alex CraytonDo you know what it's like to be faced with the fact everyone is dead and you're the last one alive? No?
Well let me tell you something...it's like nothing I can describe. Think about the most hopeless feeling you've ever gotten, then see the woman or man you love getting gunned down right in front of you.
That's where my story starts.
I pumped the last shot of morphine I had into her, but it was too late. She was fading fast and we both knew it, so I did the only thing I thought of. I knelt down beside her, holding her head up a bit "Hey bud, your gonna keep holding on right?"
She looked at me, a faint smile breaking her face "I'm dying, any idiot can see that. Just promise me something."
I grabbed her hand and looked her in the eyes. "What? I'll do anything you want." She moved my hand over her heart, feeling the warmth of the blood and the coldness of her body.
"Alex, I want you to kill the men who did this to me and I want you to give me a funeral that
